Daily Reflection - August 24th, 2011

THEORY CLASS
Mr. Herry came to class so we continued our Western Music presentation assessment. I was very disappointed because my group couldn't have our return on this meeting so we had to present our Western Music presentation assessment after Idul Fitri holiday. Well, at least we have more time to prepare our presentation. I hope our presentation after the holiday will be very satisfying.

Daily Reflection - August 23rd, 2011

THEORY LESSON
Mr. Herry didn't come to class so we couldn't continue our Western music assessment. Instead, we discussed about major scale and chord major. I haven't memorized major scales and chord major scales so when I was asked about E major scale I couldn't determine which notes have flats. I have to memorize major scales and chord major scales at home.

INSTRUMENT LESSON
We practiced abdominal breathing and blowing the flute/saxophone. I blew the flute better than the previous meeting. Then, Mr. Hary told us about his experience while having performance in India. It was very interesting although his days in India seem not very well. I hope someday, when my flute performance becomes better, I will also be invited to perform abroad.

Daily Reflection - August 17th + August 18th, 2011

There was no music class on August 17th because of Independence Day, but assembly was held on August 18th so grade 10 music class students led the other students sing "Indonesia Raya", "Hari Merdeka", and "Berkibarlah Benderaku". I wasn't nervous at all and it went well. I think it was a good chance for show my national song singing performance because the last time I performed national song singing performance was when I was on elementary school.

Daily Reflection - August 16th, 2011

THEORY LESSON
Group 1 and 2 had their Western Music presentation assessment. I think they did well although some students didn't prepare their palm cards so they didn't present their presentation fluently. The good thing for my group is, since our group is the 4th group, we would have the presentation on the following week (since August 17th is holiday) so we can have more time to prepare the presentation.
We rehearsed singing "Hari Merdeka" and "Berkibarlah Benderaku" for assembly. I didn't have difficulties because I've memorized the song since I was in kindergarten.

Daily Reflection - August 10th, 2011

THEORY LESSON
We gathered with our group mates and I became the group leader. We decided each job for Western Music presentation assessment. Gaby got classical music, I got country music, Shafiera got jazz, Samuel Kevin got pop rock and Dhanes got rock & roll. After the groups decided each group member job, the group leaders had to stand in front of the class and tell the class about each of their members job for the presentation. We will start the assessment on the following week. We also continued the music assessment performance.

Daily Reflection - August 9th, 2011

THEORY LESSON
We continued the individual singing assessment. Then, Mr. Herry divided us into 5 groups which each group consists 5 people. I am in a group with Shafiera, Gaby, Dhanes, and Samuel Kevin. On the next day, we had to present the outline research about Western music.

INSTRUMENT LESSON
I practiced blowing the flute. Because I've watched the tutorial video, I become able to blow the flute though sometimes when I blew the flute it didn't work.  We practiced out breathe so that we can blow the flute/saxophone for a long time. Mr. Hary asked us to do abdominal breathing instead of chest breathing.

Assessment Reflection - Western Song Individual Singing (August 3rd, 2011)

Hehe, this is what I've been waiting for. I did my first assessment and it was individual singing. Since singing is my hobby, I think it wouldn't be difficult to do the assessment and write the reflection here.
The song I chose to sing is "One Last Cry", originally sung by Brian McKnight. I didn't choose this song because I'm a big fan of Brian McKnight, but because a member of my favorite Korean pop group, Park "Micky" Yoochun from TVXQ!, sang this song on TVXQ! 2nd Asia tour concert. Here are the videos of the original singer and Park Yoochun sang the song. Which one is better? Park Yoochun for sure!

Brian McKnight - One Last Cry

Micky Yoochun - One Last Cry (TVXQ! 2nd Asia Tour Concert)

This song is about a person who is broken heart after seeing his/her lover being with someone else (cheat her/him) and he/she was going to left his/her lover but he/she poured his/her last cry before he/she leaves his/her lover. This song suits people who are going to break up with his/her girl/boyfriend or even broke up already.
I didn't do any important preparation for this assessment. I downloaded the instrument version of this song on the day Mr. Herry announced this assessment. I rehearsed this song everytime I could - when I had nothing to do, when I was in the car, and even when I was taking a shower! The weakness of my preparation was I didn't rehearse my song in front of other people.
Thankfully, the assessment went well. I almost forgot some parts of the lyrics because I was nervous after seeing my friends who had their turn before me sang very well. I could sing with following the instrument song well. A friend of mine recorded my performance but I haven't asked her for the video. I will upload the video as soon as I get the video from her.
If I had another chance to perform my individual singing, I would rehearse it in front of other people so I could listen comments from the others about my singing. I also wish that I could sing Asian songs because I love songs from Asian artists.

Daily Reflection - August 3rd, 2011

THEORY CLASS
Today, we did our individual singing assessment. I had my turn and as I've planned, I sang "One Last Cry" by Brian McKnight. I was nervous because I saw the other friends who had their turn before me sang really well (though some of them in my opinion didn't sing well). Thankfully my turn went well.

INSTRUMENT CLASS
For the first time, I blew my flute. I didn't work because I haven't watched the tutorial video Mr. Hary asked us to watch. After my failure in blowing the flute on this meeting, I keep practice blowing the flute everyday both at home and at car during the way to home from school.

Daily Reflection - August 2nd, 2011

THEORY CLASS
Mr. Herry gave us handouts about 7th chord and intervals. Then, we discussed about 7th chord. In the end of the class, we confirmed song title for individual assessment. I chose "One Last Cry" by Brian McKnight.

Daily Reflection - July 28th, 2011

THEORY CLASS
Mr. Herry asked us to sing "Proud Binusians" song. Since the new students haven't memorized the lyrics, he let the new students to look at the lyrics text in the journal. The old students stood in front of the class and helped us so that we, the new students, would be able to memorize the song easily. Actually this song isn't difficult to be memorized so now I can sing the whole "Proud Binusians" song.
Next, Mr. Herry let us know about our short (music notation) test result. I got most of my answers wrong. Mr. Herry mentioned the students who got all answers correct and asked them to stand up. He asked the students who haven't memorized major scale and major triad to ask the ones he mentioned to helped them. After that, we discussed about major scale and major triad, which are the things asked on the short test.
We had tasks to be done; rehearse "Bagimu Negeri" and "Hari Merdeka" and prepare for Western Song individual singing. So, firstly I had to decided the song I will sing and then rehearse it. I only have to rehearse singing "Bagimu Negeri" and "Hari Merdeka" because I've memorized it since I was in kindergarten.

INSTRUMENT CLASS
There wasn't long time for instrument class so Mr. Hary only confirmed instruments to be played by each student.

Daily Reflection - July 27th, 2011

THEORY CLASS
It was my first time being at music class. First, Mr. Herry wrote students' instrument class allocation. I thought I wouldn't get instrument class because I didn't do well on the audition in April. Apparently, I was put in woodwind class. I was really excited! I promise that I will work hard!!! :D
Next, the new students were asked to stand in front of the class and introduce themselves. Each of the new students had to mention their name, previous school, home address, hobby, and music instruments they play. I am new student so I also had to do it. It wasn't difficult to be done.
Then, Mr. Herry gave us unit planner paper and we discussed about it. He also told us what to bring to music class. Thus, I bought everything he asked us to bring to class right after I left the school.
This part was the tense one - we had a short test about music notation. This test was exactly the same as the test I had during the audition and I was sure that I did this test well during the audition but (sadly) I've forgotten everything about music notation since then, so I left the theory class with (a bit) embarrassement.

INSTRUMENT CLASS
We did introduction and Mr. Hary showed us a video of saxophone show. Then, Mr. Hary asked the students to enter their data on his PC and we had to decided what instrument each student is going to play. I decided to play flute.
