I listened to introductory discussion about Big Band Era and Swing. However, before I followed the discussion, Mr. Herry distributed handouts to the students so that the students would be able to read it and have some information about Swing. After I read the handout, I had to face the student on my left and tell her what information I received from the handout, and she did the same to me. During the discussion, Mr. Herry helped us to summarize some of the information from the handout, which is:
- Big Band Era started in 1930s.
- Notable famous musicians in the era were Woody Herman and Benny Goodman.
- Swing is a typical dance music.
- Benny Goodman is known as "King of Swing"
- Benny Goodman was born from a poor Russian - Jewish family.
- He promoted saxophone as instrument for Jazz.
Then, I and my classmates watched a video about Swing Jazz. The video showed some musicians who are famous for their involvement in developing Swing Jazz. The video showed the audio sample of Swing Jazz music as well. Before I proceeded to music class, Mr. Herry taught us about couple kinds of beats and notes but I have no idea what those beats & notes for. I should ask him on the next meeting. Moreover, I should reread the handout given during the class and do research about Swing Jazz since I didn't read the handout well during the class.
I didn't do anything because Mr. Hary was absent.
